Which picking technique does this guy use?

Could anybody please identify the picking motion this guy use? His pick grip looks very much like EVH’s, but what about the motion? Is it supinated DBX (801) motion, or is there a single (perhaps, USX) escape?

Hi! These are some decent hand closeups for a music video.

Almost all the fast lines here look like four pickstroke per string starting on a downstroke, so that would suggest USX. Whether the lines are supposed to be four notes each time or not, that’s what the motions look like. So if you’re asking how can you play this, USX would certainly work for a lot of this.

More generally, this is wrist technique, and those motions are usually pretty flat. At faster speeds like in this video, wrist players seem to always end up in the same ballpark, which is either single escape, or a mixing of different motions where it’s not super obvious if one of them is the “main” one.

Thanks a lot for your explanation!
