Which stroke to change slant with 2WPS?

(Assuming that all of the strokes are pretty much linear with no curving motions.)

If a string requires 3 pick strokes than the change in pick slanting happens on the 2nd stroke.

But what if the string requires 5, or perhaps 7 strokes? In that case there are choices about when to change the slant, and I was wondering what people do. For example, will most people switch as early as possible (always on the second stroke), or as late as possible (on the second-to-last stroke)?

For some reason I always use the 2nd stroke, but I’m curious about others.

I would say it depends if you are primary downward or primary upward
I’m primary up so odd notes on a string is my friend and I don’t usually change the slant till the last note or start at second to last before I change strings
Lately though I’ve been working on patterns that only require upward pick slanting just for fun

If your primary down you probably change on the last downstroke of the string then go back to downward on the next set until you need upward pick slanting again

Very logical, thank you!

I think this is a very wise approach and seems to lead to the most fun while practicing the instrument. I noticed I am a million times more confident/relaxed when I practice/play one-way pickslanting licks as opposed to TWPS.

Just to throw in a famous name, I have the impression that Andy James is building his modern vocabulary almost exclusively around UWPS - and the results are pretty good I would say  I have watched a few live videos of his where he doesn’t seem to make a single mistake in 5min-long tunes (and I repeat: that was live!).
