Will alternate picking arpeggios help develop TWPS technique?

I am just noticing a similarity in string switching between the two. What do you think?

Follow up question: Is it better to alternate pick arpeggios outside or inside the strings? And why?

I think learning alt-pick arpeggios first might create a more versatile TWPS technique which will allow you to switch slants with a bit more versatility. But if you go this route, I would suggest to make sure to learn the 1NPS alt picking in an efficient manner… and use Troy’s guidelines. It’s a very useful technique… but it’s also very easy to play wrong.

As far as inside vs outside… you need to be proficient with both. If you find that you are weaker in one… and stronger in the other… you need to focus on the weaker. I can’t stress this enough… I feel like I wasted nearly a year with my double-escaped picking… because I kept neglecting outside picking which was my weakness.

Depends what you mean by “2wps”. Because these are terms that we made up, and they mean somewhat arbitrary things. Worse, those meanings have changed slightly over time. To be totally clear, when I use the term “2wps”, this is the current definition of what I mean:

So avoiding the terms for a moment, let’s talk about what you are asking. Do you mean will alternate picking arpeggios help you learn to play scales? Sure. I also think learning to play scales can help you play arpeggios!

Are you a wrist player? If so, there is an overall concept that unites all wrist motions which makes the wrist a very capable joint for guitar picking. All these motions are connected, and we can argue that there is essentially no difference in the motions here. The article helps clarify a little further.

Yes, this is what I am referring to.
