I was wondering if any wrist/forearm blend players here have developed a double escape technique using this motion? I know it is typically USX motion. I know Teemu Mäntysaari has incredibly good double escape technique and also mainly uses a wrist/forearm blend motion, but I am not sure if he changes to a different motion for this type of playing.
In my experience you literally just rotate the wrist from the gypsy jazz usx position, on to the bridge, and can do double escapes from there doing essentially the same motion.
Videos really low sound for some reason.
At what tempo do we consider it double escape? I can do 1nps alternating between 2 strings at 150bpm but is that fast enough to consider it double escape? I’m primarily a wrist dsx player but my forearm gets involved in order to do said 1nps alternate picking.
I don’t think tempo matters in classification, but I know what you mean I think… going faster is different from slow, in my opinion the motions just tighten up and some seem to disappear, but they are all still there.
Have a go at this, I think it’s the most basic double escape pattern you can do, thats not just the typical back n forth. It should help in getting the feel for double escape as it doesn’t let your hand relax, because it’s constantly switching from up stroke to down stroke.
Hi @RG707.
I developed a double-escape for based on a rotation and reverse dart-thrower blend as a teenager. I’ve spoken about it at length before, and I made this discussion video some time back for another member.
It’s a very capable movement.
Thanks for the replies everyone. I will take a look at everything.
