Yngwie meets McLaughlin

This is the funniest bit of music journlaism I’ve ever read! I just wish there was a recording of it, especially when Yngwie exclaims loudly, upon learning that McLaughlin doesn’t just babble on about Jimi Hendrix, but actually jammed with him back in the day!

That’s amazing, especially when they both basically turn on the interviewer by the end.

MALMSTEEN: I have never practiced. I’ve never done an exercise, I’ve never done a certain pattern over and over and over, ever!

Oh come on!!

for some reasons I believe him

hahahaha man I love this. Great interview and it’s hilarious to imagine them ganging up on the interviewer in this restaurant. Wish they got this on video.

Yeah right. To get real good you play all the time kids. He wouldn’t let 15 mins go by on a bus without playing. :bear:

I bet he played alot. Question is what Yngwie means by ‘practice’. From his rhythm feel I can say that he is certainly not a metronome guy. I think he played different passages, pieces etc, but I doubt that he used some kind of unmusical petrucci-like exercises.

Yeah I imagine there’s a good amount of truth to that. I imagine most of his chops went into learning actual musical pieces and then writing his own.

Damn, I wanted to hear him crank up through the Marshall wall and overload all the recording gear!
