I think i need some help about the uwps

First, I am sorry about my poor English,so although I’ve watched all the video,I can’t understand the course perfectly .so forgive me if the question I am going to ask is stupid ,please .
The first question is how to mute when I use the upward pickslanting, cause when I use the uwps my palm was away from the guitar body and I was unable to use my palm to mute.
The second question is I feel confusing about the relationship between the motion downstroke escape and upward pickslanting. what are the difference between these motion, cause when I want the downstroke escape,I need to use the upward pickslanting ,it seems like they are the same motion.

Hi, thanks for posting! To your first question, about muting with upward pickslanting…this is definitely a thing others have trouble with too, so you’re not alone  Interesting discussion here — some players find palm muting a challenge with UWPS, and some with DWPS: DWPS and palm muting...Impossible? - #25 by Troy

As Troy mentioned at the end of that thread, you may have luck with a more supinated arm position

A couple good tips here as well: Upward Pickslanting and Palm Muting?

To your second question, about the difference between downstroke escape and upward pickslanting—

The way we use these terms now, only “downstroke escape” refers to the picking motion, describing how the pick escapes the plane of the strings on a downstroke.

Upward pickslanting refers to the actual angle of the pick, but not its trajectory (path of motion).

The confusion here is our fault because early on, we did use the term “pickslanting” when generally describing the whole motion. But we now understand that while they’re correlated, the pick angle and its trajectory are two different things.
