Roy Marchbank. I think he is legit

I know there been issues in past with him…
But comon. I timestamped it so just watch n then comment.

Look at buckethead, he’s litarally doing what roy is. At least for one short moment.

Really weird… as he don`t do that… Thats not bucketheads techniqe… Out of nowhere he went trailing edge behind the bridge, anyone got other footage of him doing that?

surly he must of practiced that n got other recorded stuff.

My attempt.
I call this the galaxy quest pig.

Roy Marchbank, crazy fast player! What issues did he have? Is he okay? Hopefully all is well!

There is plenty of live footage of him playing. He’s the real deal.

Was issues on the forum that got deleted. Pertaining to use of midi. I still think that he is legit n would love a ctc on him. If you`re watching Roy, more love here than you know x

He purposely misrepresented his playing and denied it multiple times right here, when it was obvious to anyone with eyes and ears that things weren’t legit. I think the bridge is burned.

If you’re interested in attempting the picking motion, mimic the form. Use a ludicrously thick pick and basically rub the top of the string.

There are 2 players that seemingly every thread about them turns into a garbage truck that caught fire. Roy is one of them lol! I hope this one stays ok, but I’ll be grabbing some popcorn just in case.

Oh, I thought he got hurt or something! Glad he’s okay! Crazy fast player, yep.

Where does his technique fall within the CtC universe? For example, DSX, etc.?

Hey all,

I’m not sure I love where this is going, and I already deleted a few replies.

I feel like reviving this topic is a bit like beating a dead horse — basically everything that needed to be said about this player has been said in other threads already.

I’ll keep monitoring and will lock / delete this thread if needed.

In the meantime, be nice to each other

Bdx I think. Just with a very uniqe wrist placement behind the bridge.

DBX*

I haven’t studied him super closely but a key ingredient seems to be that the motion is very close to flex-extension (maybe a very steep RDT / DT?)

That’s what it looks like to me, and the motion itself is definitely fast. I think other choices (playing super close to the bridge, using the giant pick, all the string mutes) aid in more-or-less ignoring string changes.

PS: For the Maths/Physics job I was looking at some maths stuff on Stack Exchange earlier.

I am pleased to report that, while we do have some problems every now and then, even our worst Forum conflicts are nicer than the average Stack Exchange conversation

Well done us!

I think it comes down to if you think using perhaps a midi controller is cheating or not?
The reason he uses a mega thick pick and a midi controller it to deal with the harsh attack that his techniqe has. I don’t think it’s cheating, as give me that setup n sure I’ll sound far more consistant, but I won’t be as fast as him, And nor as musically advanced.

One thing I like that idk how many have seen is he has added a breath controller to add even more versatillity to the guitar.

There is music there in my opinion. And isn’t that what its about, the end result?

@WhammyStarScream Go listen to Allan Holdsworth, as I’d take an easy guess he and Shawn Lane are Roy’s two biggest influences. Holdsworth both used a breath controller and a midi guitar (the Synthaxe) back in the '80s. He was a huge fan of Star Trek, too.

I never seen him use one Holdsworth, with a breath controller, got any links? Had a look.

As for the synthaxe I refer back to this LOL
