Who would you like to see interviewed next by Troy and the team?

I’d like to see Erik Rutan. Extreme metal is not to everyone’s taste, but Erik displays a level of athleticism that you won’t often see in other genres.

Wow, Jacky Vincent rips! I’ve never heard of him, thanks for posting this.

There is a guy called Joshua Jones, who from my perspective is literally part of the guitar god category.

I would like to see :

Me ! If i can have a magnet…

Not sure if these have been mentioned yet:

Roy Marchbank - mind-blowing alt picker. He can pick seemingly anything, even 1 nps lines, at tremolo picking speeds. Uses a blend of forearm rotation + wrist deviation

Keith Whalen - Incredibly unique approach to guitar, he plays it like a piano or violin. And I can’t for the life of me figure out what mechanic he’s using, and I asked him and he doesn’t know either haha

Never heard of this guy before but wow!

Yeah he’s pretty unknown, I discovered him through instagram. Not a professional player or anything, just a dude who likes to skate and play guitar. But damn he’s good

For real tho

John Petrucci. I’m surprised he wasn’t mentioned more

I’m impressed and inspired, thanks for this, he’s motivated me to go full bach mode for a while, one of the YJM licks I’m working on is killing the joy in me atm.

awesome, pumped to hear it! if you have instagram, he posts very frequently, often along with handwritten tabs, that often even have pickstroke notation. So I recommend getting an account if you don’t have one just for the wealth of licks in his library. Tons of great stuff to practice there too, he is absolutely not a one trick pony. Alt picking, sweeping, economy, tons of different combos of #'s of notes per string, etc.

That’s a good idea, I’ll get a stealth account going
Thanks Matt!

I had a video consultation with Roy Marchbank a few months ago. Mind blown…
We talked about technique a bit as there was some specific things I wanted to ask him about and he demonstrated alt picking, 1nps alt picking, legato and also a sort of muting thing he developed with his thumb, seen as he picks right back at the saddle, to create a different attack.
He also demonstrated playing 1nps arpeggios with sweep picking, alt picking and all legato, the same arpeggios, just to highlight the difference in timbre.
The guy is an absolute beast! Not to mention very easy to chat and have a laugh with.
Would be great to see him under the magnet because with the fairly unique hand position, or at least I’ve not seen it before, I have absolutely no idea what sort of specific things are happening… Usx, Dsx, both…? No idea

I did the same thing! awesome dude, and mindblowing player. Totally gonna take some more with him. Surprised he isn’t more known among guitarists, I don’t know if i’ve ever seen alt picking at his level before

As far as I’m aware there’s been some friction with Roy n Troy getting together. And a lot of attacks against Roy for miming.

But whatever has happened… I’d love to see it too. Roy is great.

Why not this guy? That string skipping is too much for me to comprehend.

Yeah same, the stuff he was doing during the consultation was something I hadn’t seen before. Not that I go out of my way looking for the fastest players or anything!
Maybe because he plays world fusion music he isn’t more out there? To be honest the vast majority of world fusion, or any fusion, is usually over my head.
Anyway, would be cool to see under the camera someday maybe!

I mentioned Zak Wylde previously and then there was an update to the primer shortly after which spoke about his technique! So I’d recommend anyone who also mentioned him take a look at that. When I see him play, it kind of makes me think of the incredible hulk playing guitar! I do mean that as a compliment to him, just to be clear! He’s an awesome player.
