Did anyone suggest Ian Thornley.
Hi Troy,
Wayne Krantz is currently doing a daily patreon practice diary post - its incredible.
Anyway, from what I can tell from his current patter process, (and I took lessons from him when I lived in NY)I think he would be very possibly be open to this. I say this because it seems as if he’s a really open person, and open to breaking everything down.
His right hand technique, as you know, is capable incredible stuff. And he’s into metal - referring to it recently
I think, from an improvisors perspective, it would be great to see if/what the relationship is between notes per string and improvising music of the moment. Whether that is (likely at his level) completely intuitive, and was the intuitive relationship born of a system (again likely) … but how is this broken down? What happens technique wise on those really fast lines that are improvised?
He’s currently messing with some really fast stuff…
Anyway, a Krantz interview, imv, would also be good for the art made by those who make music using guitars.
All th best.
John Petrucci
Per Nilsson
Stephen Taranto
Stevie T )
because I want to see him anxious in the crowd of his iterviewers )
I’m kidding, he shreds.
Nuff said. This would be amazing!
John Petrucci
Paul Gilbert
Guthrie Govan
George Bellas
Rock Discipline started it all for me. To see JP on Cracking the Code would be just incredible!
Yeah man. Same here. Those 16th note chromatic runs he did where he took it up to 200+bmp is a personal goal of mine. Should be easier now that I know it will never work with the way I used to pick (rigid UWPS with either little or no DSX…possibly even trapped). Perfectly suited for DWPS/USX I couldn’t even do it at 160bmp back when I worked on it. Now, on a good day I can get it in the 170s or even 180s. So, progress
I’d really be interested to see what it looks like under the magnet if he played this:
…but…instead of even notes per string, which are easily with a constant pick slant/escape…what would happen if he demonstrated the 3 note groupings here
So basically if played the second clip at the speed of the first clip. It would be really interesting to see what type of rotational motions he uses to navigate all the string skipping. He never demonstrated those at full speed, though I’m sure he could rip through them.
Hi, lot’s of interesting suggestions on this list but I must agree with the suggestion of analyzing Ulf Wakenius picking technique! Seems to be a very unique approach, definitely using a lot of finger movement, maybe similar to Martin Miller?
Personally, I’d love to see Paul Gilbert and Steve Vai. Especially Steve Vai, as he’s my favorite guitarist ever.
Other ones I’d like to see are Yngwie Malmsteen, John Petrucci and John McLaughlin.
I would love to see Wes Hauch!
Sierra Hull
Chris Thile
Chris Thile might be a little busy with Prairie Home Companion these days (though, who knows), but he also strikes me as the sort who would absolutely be happy to sit down with Troy and talk technique.
Stephen Taranto, Jason Richardson. Both have insane alternate picking chops.
Jason Richardson and Zakk Wylde would be awesome to see
Philip Sayce
Mark O’Connor
Pasquale Grasso
Zakk Wylde would be interesting. For some of his really fast stuff it’s very hard to tell what he’s doing. It’s almost like you can see elbow, forearm and wrist all happening at the same time.
I would love to see Paul Gilbert, but I guess that will not happen…
Vance Valenzuela of Vale of Pnath does some crazy stuff, would love to see that in depth. In the song Accursed they do some pretty fast tremolo picking with chords as well.
I’d love to see…
Paul Gilbert
Kee Marcello
Andy James
Nuno Bettencourt
