Practice routines

For the teachers in the room, how do you recommend students practice. This is something I’ve asked my teacher and I’ve never received a satisfactory response. Let’s say one can dedicate at least one hour a day to focused practice with the desire to improve right hand technique and left hand dexterity (with both single note lead lines, runs within chord shapes, and fretting complicated chords). How would you recommend divvying up the hour in question? (Obvious caveats that there is no single, …

Practice Routine Organization Poll

Just curious about a simple issue and this group, 3 question poll: Roughly how much time per day or week do you spend actively practicing guitar? That is - intentionally trying to work on some type of skill, as opposed to just noodling around for fun, or jamming with others, etc. Of that time, how much of it is spent on speed/technique related work? Or just anything involving playing something at a faster tempo. Of the time that’s not spent on #2, what are the other musical activities? …

Building a methodical alternate picking practice routine

Hi! I’m sure this question came up before, but here goes- I’m a music performance student, I play hours and hours every day, mostly working on harmony and bebop improv. However, all the fancy jazz aside, I’m still just a guitar player that wants to get to shredder territory So realistically I have about 45-60 minutes a day to focus solely on technique. I practice legato, hybrid and sweep picking too, so let’s say that leaves me with 15 minutes of super focused alternate picking practic…

Looking for help to develop a practice routine

Hey guys, First of all, if it’s not the place for that post, feel free to move it . Little bit of story about me. I’ve been playing guitare for quite some times (with up and down on motivation) and as I have always learn by myself, I have a lot of gaps to fill. I am currently reading a lot about theories on chords, scales etc but I have serious issues about having a motivating and consistent paractice routine. I came accross some really intresting topics on CTC forum like Pract…

The 18-minute Practicing Routine

Hey everybody, I’ve been meaning to share this with everyone, but the past, oh, two years, have been sincerely insane. And I’m only really getting some break time from the chaos of things right now cuz I’m taking it easy as I get closer to my 2nd open heart surgery in November. Aaaaanyway… I’m gonna make this quick so I can try and upload these pages here to share before I have to bolt out to take care of tonight’s guitar lessons. If the uploads don’t work, I’ll make some time to re-type …

Structuring practice

Hello everyone, as a student I am finding it difficult to practice for more than 30 minutes to at most an hour every other day sometimes every day. When I do get the practice time in however, I don’t know how to structure it. I enjoy players like Mateus Asato and Beau Diakowicz so I’ve been throwing myself into book and videos on jazz theory and jazz guitar. I’m hoping to set a routine of posting videos here for C&C on the weekends too. Any advice or examples of personal practice routines from t…

Using Cracking the Code as an experiment

Hello, everyone! I am about to do one of the most embarrassing things I have done in my life (this will be a little long, so I apologize in advance). A confession: I am a HORRIBLE electric guitar player. No… Let me take that back. I’m not even a guitar player to begin with. Funny thing is, this doesn’t mean that I’m a zero when it comes to music. Quite the opposite. I graduated from a music school and have worked in music professionally for almost 15 years. But not on guitar. I am a ZERO on gui…

Practice routine and some advices

Throughout my guitar playing my practicing schedules were rather chaotic and I never had enough discipline to create some kind of a methodical practice routine untill recently. After spending some time doing it I spotted much better progress so here I am with my practice schedule and some tips that I found useful to make the most out of your practicing. If u always were lazy like me here is a complete practice routine for you to cover all of the basic building blocks of your picking technique (S…
